#OpenGov Updates from Tirana OGP Local!

Posted by

It was an absolute pleasure to join the second OGP Local – Gov & CSO Points of Contact Meeting and share our progress and updates on the Tirana Open Government Partnership Local process.

Tirana joined the OGP family as part of the 2020 cohort, and since then, we have been working diligently to foster transparency, citizen participation, and improve public service delivery in our beautiful city. We are proud to present four key commitments that we have been working on from 2021 to 2023:

—> Participatory Decision Making through ‘Informal Education’ Approach:
Empowering our citizens with knowledge and understanding of governance processes is vital. By implementing the ‘Informal Education’ approach, we aim to engage citizens in decision-making processes, making it inclusive and representative of all voices.

—> Administrative Unit’s Info Points:
In our pursuit of transparent and accessible governance, we have established “Info Points” within administrative units. These points serve as hubs of information, where citizens can seek assistance, voice concerns, and access government-related information with ease.

—>  My Neighborhood’s Change Agent:
Strong communities are built on the efforts of change agents. Our commitment aims to identify and empower individuals within neighborhoods to become change agents, initiating positive transformations and bringing local issues to the forefront.

—>  WhatsApp Counselor:
Harnessing the power of technology for improved public services, we have introduced a WhatsApp counseling service. Citizens can now engage with government representatives and seek support, suggestions, and solutions through this efficient platform.

During the meeting, we also had the opportunity to learn from our counterparts in Hamburg, Germany, and Madrid, Spain, among others. Sharing experiences and best practices is invaluable in strengthening our global community and advancing our collective goals of open and accountable governance.

We do acknowledge that challenges may arise on our journey towards openness and transparency, and we are determined to address them head-on. We invite all of you to contribute your valuable insights and ideas as we continue to make progress.

Lastly, I want to extend a warm invitation to upcoming events and actions related to #OpenGov in Tirana. Stay connected with us on our website, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter for timely updates and opportunities to engage.

Together, we can create a more inclusive and participatory society. Let’s forge ahead on our #OpenGov journey, learning from each other, and making a lasting impact!

With warm regards,
